First Destination: Gold Coast

After our very belated departure I picked up Rosie on Thursday evening and we made our way up the Hume and out of the state, pulling over for the night in Albury. Friday was possibly the longest I have sat still in my life and despite gettting a tad sick of the songs on my ipod and being waved to by passer byes (Truckies, over campervaners etc) we had a safe and smooth journey. Friday night was spent in Macksville, south of Coffs Harbour in a nice car space by the river. Little did we realise Friday nights in Macksville brings out all the drunks and bogans, as we lay in bed listening to them doing donuts and stumbling drunk along the street we seriously hoped they wouldn't notice George and try rocking him or even pushing him in the river. Safe to say we survived and woke to a beautiful foggy morning and only a few hours drive up the highway to the Gold Coast!
So now here I am, well and truly settling in to the campervan lifestyle and forgetting that everything I own is in the back of the car - this has been helpful when we've been caught out needed a knife, a spare towel, or a serviette.
A brief checklist of some random achievements so far:
- made it out of Victoria CHECK (finally)
- made friends with a few random travellers at the road stops along the way CHECK
- get to see Harriet! CHECK
- been to the beach CHECK
- got all of George's appliances and gadgets working ... not quiet yet
- locked the keys in George CHECK :(
- been out partying on the Gold Coast CHECK
- strapped mum and dad up in the back seats and driven around with them CHECK
Anyway that's about it for now. Below are a few photos of Rosie and I on our journey.

Preparations

Here we go... George's first photos.
This is the big clean out, aided by nana, in the driveway before I start packing. And before George headed of to the mechanic to get all fixed up, and ready to go. Still waiting for his return unfortunately, hence I have a lot of spare time reading the paper and being on computer today waiting to leave. Guess this killing time and enjoying my own company is something I should probably start to get used to!
Anyway fingers crossed I'll get the call from the mechanic soon and be heading off to pick up my friend Rosie in Mebourne and get on the Hume straight to the Gold Coast!

Departure Update

Ok so the departure has been delayed due to some necessary works to 'George'.
Once I'm on the road I shall post some photos of the preparations, including George's first photos shoot, cleaning and packing George.
Meanwhile I best get back to packing and sorting what I will and wont need for the next four months, aaah!
